The creators of UNIT IMAGE announced through their Facebook Page that they were evolving their 3D scan technology into a full service for VFX, CGI and real-time engine projects.
Based on the photogrammetry technique, Scan Engine captures models at a speed of 1/100th seconds using up to 120 DSLR cameras placed in a 360° circle around them. One of Scan Engine’s main innovations is the face morph which enables to easily animate faces with smooth expression transitions, while keeping a perfect alignment of topology and textures.

At first, we set up this technology at UNIT IMAGE because we wanted to reach a new level of quality in character creation and facial animation. The results were very encouraging, so we started using that technique for more and more of our films, fully integrated in our production pipeline. We gained so much time and quality working that way, that we realized this was something other studios and production companies would most likely be looking for. So, Scan Engine was born. We are very excited to be starting this new adventure, and working with members of the entertainment industry to make their 3D characters even more lifelike.”
