From virtual production to augmented reality broadcasts, Unreal Engine 4.23 delivers new tools and workflows that are changing the way media and entertainment content is produced. Highlights include in-camera VFX, VR scouting tools, enhanced Live Link real-time data streaming, and new ways to remotely control UE4.
Enhanced pipeline integration
The ability to seamlessly move data within your pipeline is a huge contributor to productivity, and it is constantly striving to raise the bar. This release sees new support for natively importing Cinema 4D and IFC files, support for the OSC audio communication protocol, and a slew of enhancements to Datasmith.
Advanced physics and effects
This release introduces the Chaos physics and destruction system, offering the ability to create cinematic-quality linear or real-time experiences with massive-scale shattering, fracturing, and demolition. In addition, the Niagara visual effects system gets a number of enhancements to performance, quality, and usability.
Enhanced display/output capabilities
Epic Games has extended Unreal Engine’s display and output capabilities, with better support for rendering to multiple displays, the ability to play back HAP-encoded media with alpha channels, enhancements to the Panoramic Capture Tool, and production-ready support for HoloLens 2.
Unreal Editor enhancements
Epic Games has added a number of improvements to the Unreal Editor to make it faster and easier to work with your assets.
