Epic Games acquires Grooming tool Shave and a Haircut and made it Free in Unreal Engine 4

Epic Games recently announced that they have done Acquisition Grooming tool Shave and a Haircut and will make the v9.6 Maya plugin and associated shaders available on GitHub in the coming weeks as both source code and compiled binaries. These will be free for everyone to use under the Unreal Engine 4 EULA.

Shave and a Haircut is an interactive grooming and styling tool for hair and fur, with associated shaders for offline rendering in Arnold, RenderMan, and V-Ray. It is currently productized as a v.9.6 plugin for Autodesk Maya.


Recently Epic Games bought Architecture realtime tool Twinmotion from developer Abvent, making the software free until November. In a press release, the company said that anyone who downloads Twinmotion before the end of the promotion can keep using it forever without having to pay royalties.
